How to Become a Good Conversationalist
Questions to Ask Yourself To Become a Good Conversationalist:
1.Why are you having the conversation?
Ask yourself why you want to have the conversation in the first place. Do you want to persuade the person to do something for you? Do you want to ask for advice? Do you want to know more about the person? Do you want to get important information from the person? By knowing your reason for having the conversation or engaging in it, you will be able to dictate the tempo of the conversation and most likely, you will be able to get what you want from that talk.
2.With whom are you having a conversation?
Are you talking to your boss...or perhaps to someone older? Are you speaking with a friend or a stranger? The status, the age, the personality and your relationship with the person you're speaking with greatly affects the way you're supposed to talk to the person. It gives you an idea of what vocabulary you'll use and what tone you will put on.
3.When and where is the conversation happening?
Is it a good time to have a conversation? Is the atmosphere conducive to the kind of conversation you would like to have? Even with all the right intentions, if the timing is not right, the talk may not end up well.
4.What is the conversation about?
During the conversation, some topics which are irrelevant may come up and if you don't have a clear idea of where you want the conversation to go, you might end up talking about things which have no connection to the reason why you're having a talk with the person.
